Track record of CEMD: Achievements
In the ten years since its inception, CEMD has worked with government and private systems of schools to build capacity of educators/administrators and systems to undertake and manage sustainable change towards impacting student learning. A few illustrative examples of these are given below.

Intervention and Activities
- Whole School Development Project: The Education Management Resource Programme (EMRP) was a pilot project taken up by CEMD in 1993, for the institutional development of 12 schools catering to socio-economically and educationally marginalized communities. Consistent efforts in capacity building (training and development) of the Management, Principal and a core group of teachers accompanied by support to develop need-based systemic solutions has resulted in significant changes in academic management, instructional effectiveness, human resource systems, parent participation and financial and infrastructure management have dramatically increased enrollment, retention and achievement levels of students in these schools.
- Institutional Development: The School Reform Programme was an intervention at 3 levels in the Delhi Administration system of schools. The following has been achieved
- For the state of Uttar Pradesh CEMD has developed a state of the art training programme and manual for heads of schools and officers for SIEMAT.
- Training courses for school leaders and administrators:
- The Education Leadership Programme (ELP), was started in 1996 as there are no professional development opportunities in the environment for education administrators. This is a widely acclaimed course. The Centre has trained 1690 Principals, Education Officers and other leaders through ELP. The programme has been evaluated by Queens University, Kingston, Canada, and found to be of international standards.
- Teacher trainings: Courses/Workshops/training for teachers on various topics and subjects are also offered by CEMD.
- Some of the systems of schools that have benefited by these are mentioned below:
- Principals and faculty of leading schools like Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, St. Columba's, Vasant Valley school, Shri Ram School, Cambridge School, Somerville School, Delhi Public School, are some of the alumni of ELP.
- The NDMC (New Delhi Municipal Corporation) system of schools.
- The Navodaya Vidyalaya System—a Central Government system of residential rural schools for gifted students.
- Chinmaya Mission Schools
- Andhra Pradesh Heads of Govt. schools
- Delhi Government school system
- AKES project staff and project schools
- Loreto school system
- Professional development needs and educational research has informed the development of all initiatives such as EMRP, Education Leadership courses and Teacher development Courses. Study material for the entire ELP course, amounting to a total of ten modules, has been prepared.
- A study on impact of violence on the children going to school and out of school including perceptions on access to and retention in schools in Gujarat was conducted in 2003.
- Papers have been developed on themes such as Facilitative Leadership, Monitoring and Evaluation of Large-scale Programmes with a focus on DPEP, School-level Change and Multicultural Education in India.
- A Career Guidance manual and a compilation of articles on state-of-the-art Education Leadership and Management have also been published in addition to the Teacher's Diary and Manuals for Financial Management and School councils.
- Action research studies have been conducted in many areas to guide the intervention strategy. Some of these are Training needs of functionaries at all levels, Comparative competency levels of Class VI students from Delhi Directorate of education and feeder systems (NDMC, MCD, unrecognized schools), Existing competencies in language and Math towards development of a foundation course at Class VI level etc.
- An educational quarterly newsletter, Leading Edge, has been published.
